The most important day of my death

posted Tuesday, 19 June 2007

These are my official funeral plans.  They overrule anything else I randomly tell anyone or I write anywhere else (apart from the copy also saved onto my hard drive).  I will change this every time I wish to make an alteration and therefore this post will always hold the most up to date version. I’m going to split this into three parts, the look, the music and the words.

The Look:

  •  Make good use of the adjective paradisiacal.
  •  I want an outside funeral if possible.  If the weather is not agreeable, please can I have a marquee for the guests?  Pretty please?
  •  Flowers: white jasmine flowers all around and also on my…
  • Coffin: 100% biodegradable.  These are often wicker which is great or bamboo which is even better, however I believe the most common form is cardboard, which I won’t haunt anyone about but I would rather the two above.
  •  My clothes: I MUST be buried in a white dress.
  •  Attendees' clothes: I don’t want the whole black/formal clothes thing.  I would like people to come in whatever is most comfortable for them, whatever I saw them in while I was living.  Another note about the attendees, I want anyone to be able to come, however small their connection to me, even if they never knew me.  It’s not that I want it particularly big, just… welcoming.

The Music:

  •  As the coffin comes down the isle to come to rest on those strings that they put it on above the hole I want “Skywriting” by “The Eels” to be playing.
  •  In the middle of the service, I would like the hymn “For The Beauty Of The Earth” by John Rutter to be sung.  There are two versions of this, so please ensure you find the Rutter.
  •  At the end of the service I would like the hymn “The Day Thou Gavest Lord Has Ended” by “Clement Scholefield” to be sung and as it ends my coffin can be lowered the ground.

The Words:

  •  As many people as would like to, please stand and do that nice soppy talk about my life (I thank yee in advance, for you OTT praise!)
  •  After every little talk I would like one of my friends to read a passage of their choice from their holy book.  For those of my friends who have no religion, a small piece from any suitable piece of literature that means something to them would be lovely.

Currently I can defiantly see gaps here but they will be filled in time, which hopefully (as I am currently young and without terminal illness) I should have a lot of!

Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance to however carries out these plans.

Exceedingly lovely, and I'll make sure everything is done accordingly. However, you might want to grammar-check that post, there are a lot of elementary mistakes, darling!
